Summer Birthday Party Inspiration
Is there any better way to celebrate a summer birthday than a pool party? What about a double birthday pool party?! That’s exactly what Lisa at Modern Party Company did for Chase and Coco. Chase and his little sister Coco Ree happen to have summer birthdays that fall within days of each other. This year, their parents decided to go all out for a huge pool party birthday bash to celebrate Chase’s ninth and Coco’s seventh birthdays!
Modern Party Company is best known for its modern bounce house rentals but for Chase and Coco’s party, Lisa, the company’s founder, planned and designed this entire epic event for Chase and Coco. Since the main attraction of this joint birthday celebration was the stunning pool that was built into the backyard, the party centered around a fun, flamingo-filled tropical theme that’s perfect for any summer celebration.

When it comes to parties - especially kid’s parties - balloons are the most fun way to really embrace your party theme. For Chase and Coco’s party, Lisa did exactly that. A wall of balloons practically covered the entire span of the backyard porch. The focal point was the light-up marquee letters from Lone Star Glow Co. with balloon garlands wrapped behind them. Although these balloon garlands were designed by Balloon Therapy, you can create your own balloon garlands with the many balloons in our latex balloon collection. Or get started with the Tropical Balloon Bouquet, which even includes mylar monstera leaf balloons similar to those featured here.
For this tropical summer party, Lisa chose bright blues, greens, pinks, peach, and white balloons in the garland. Interspersed throughout the garland were colorful starburst balloons, flamingos, tropical leaves, and even some beach balls. You can add some fun to your balloon garland creation with our Just Chillin’ Beach Ball Balloon, Flamingo Mylar Balloon, or even our adorable Baby Flamingo Mylar Balloon.
Something we thought was really cute and unique was the sunglasses station that Lisa set up. Sunny summer days require sunglasses, but there was no need to worry if you forgot your pair at this party! Lisa set up a shelving unit and lined it with pink, blue, and, apropos of this flamingo-loving party theme, tropical sunglasses complete with palm trees and flamingos! Although these were meant as party favors for the little guests in attendance, they were used all day long rather than just taken home at the end of the party. If you want to set up a sunglass station for your summer party, we have a variety of sunglasses that would be perfect for blocking out the bright summer sun.
For additional seating and eating areas aside from the traditional patio furniture that was already in the backyard, Lisa set up several short, long white tables in the grass. Woven mats were scattered beneath the tables to keep the grass from tickling guests as they enjoyed their meal. To make the seating area comfier, Lisa laid out large fluffy pillows in matching party theme colors of white, teal, and pink to relax in.
Lisa chose really vibrant and fun patterns for her tableware. She started with the Frenchie Striped Paper Plates in Cerise Pink as the main meal plate. For dessert and snacks, she set out our Tropicale Small Paper Plates with matching Tropicale Napkins and accenting Mint Green Dinner Napkins. The cutlery used was from our Woodland Wooden Cutlery Set, which is made from natural birch wood to match any party. Finally, no tropical summer party would be complete without a flamingo straw cup. For your own party, you can add our fun Flamingo Drink Floaties to your table. They come in sets of two colors and will even allow your cup or can to float if you take your drink to the pool.
No party would be complete without an array of delicious food. After a splash down the waterslide and a stop at the pizza food truck parked in the driveway, you could head inside to find a full spread of yummy foods lining the top of the kitchen island. Several platters of amazing tropical-themed charcuterie boards from B&B Boards were lined up along the whole counter, filled with just about everything you could think of. Round orange vases of colorful flowers filled out whatever little spaces were left to complete this stunning spread.
Of course, you can’t have a charcuterie spread without plates and napkins to collect your hors d’oeuvres! At the end of the counter, Lisa set out stacks of our Mint and Rose Pink Paper Plates. Colorful cups held toothpicks and utensils to make picking snacks easier. On your own charcuterie spread, you can use our Oh Happy Day Party Cups in teal green, coral, and happy yellow to match the tropical theme and fill them with Umbrella Food Picks and extra sets of Woodland Cutlery.
There was definitely no shortage of sweets on this birthday. Not only were there cotton candy and snow cone carts, but the dessert bar inside was also just as amazing as the charcuterie spread. Set up just to the side of the kitchen, the dessert bar was overflowing with delicious confections from Black Bear Bakery. Tons of cookies including custom birthday cookies for Chase and Coco, macarons, and other sweet treats were laid out on this dessert table. We especially love the flamingo cookies - how cute are they?! The table itself was decorated with banana leaves to place the desserts on and paired with our Purple Melamine Cake Stand to add some dimension to the layout. Sprinkles of Cotton Candy Mini Confetti added a touch of whimsy to this yummy spread.
Although this was mainly a party for kids, the adults in attendance were not forgotten. Beneath another glorious balloon garland was a cocktail bar filled with custom tropical party drinks, including spiked strawberry lemonade and watermelon margaritas. Rows of pineapple and flamingo cups lined the bar's shelves to serve all the refreshing drinks. Lining the bar itself was an assortment of cups with drink stirrers and straws for anyone who wanted one. We suggest using our Pineapple Paper Straws and Flamingo Straws to match the pineapple and flamingo theme. However, our Lemon Slice Paper Straws would be perfect if you want something a little more subtle. Pair these with our Summer Pool Party Drink Stirrers, and you'll be all set to go!
When it was finally time to sing happy birthday to Chase and Coco, their cakes were rolled out on a beautiful vintage-style candy cart. The cart wasn’t overly decorated to really allow the beautiful cakes to stand out. However, a few small vases of tropical flowers and a large-sized Party Disco Ball were all it needed. The cakes themselves were incredible. Chase and Coco each got their own custom-themed cake. Coco’s was pink and green with a flamingo and flower theme served on our Purple Melamine Cake Stand, while Chase’s was yellow and green for a pineapple theme topped with real pineapple leaves on our Chartreuse Melamine Cake Stand. Chase and Coco made their birthday wishes on teal and pink candles that matched their cakes, but if you wanted to get even more on theme, our Pineapple and Flamingo Candles would be perfect!
To say this was the best day ever would probably be a bit of an understatement, even though that’s exactly what the signs read in Chase and Coco’s front yard. Lisa held nothing back when she helped plan and design this summer birthday party. It had everything a seven and nine-year-old could possibly dream of. (There was even a bubble foam truck in the front yard!) We’re positive that this amazing party became core memories for Chase and Coco.
