Milk and Cookies Themed First Birthday Party
First birthdays are always the sweetest to celebrate. Our good friend Kristen over at The Basic Birch Co. just celebrated her son’s first birthday in the most adorable way. Kristen’s son’s name is Cook, but he is better known in his family by the cute nicknames of either “Cookie” or “Cookie Bear.” Of course, this led to Kristen’s fantastic idea of a cookie-themed first birthday!
Kristen is the owner and founder of The Basic Birch Company. She designs customized wooden and acrylic signs and event decor laser-printed for any occasion. She put her incredible talents to good use to create backdrops and signs that truly brought her theme to life. Kristen wanted a less cartoonish and more modern theme, and what she came up with was an event to remember.

Kristen went with a neutral color palette for Cook’s party. She incorporated pops of blue for a colorful touch that brought a fun and exciting vibe to the festivities. Kristen strung balloon garlands along the backdrops and the bounce house to bring her color palette to life.
We love balloon garlands here at Ellie and Piper, and we offer a variety of balloon colors to create garlands to fit any theme. Kristen used matte balloons in beige, sand, peach, and cream shades with bursts of blue and black. The addition of mini balloon streamers gave the garlands a nice bit of motion as the wind blew, which was absolutely ingenious. Another cute option would be to incorporate our Chocolate Chip Cookie balloon, which would go perfectly for a cookie-themed birthday.
The table that Kristen arranged for her little guests was chic and adorable. Underneath a huge, oversized beach umbrella, Kristen laid out a nice, thick blanket and added woven rugs to create a modern picnic feel. She chose a short wooden table surrounded by fluffy pillows in the proper party colors that were super comfy and cute. A simple wicker basket held three small milk jugs with white roses for an easy but beautiful centerpiece.
By clamping some tall dowels to the table, she created a way to hang tissue paper tassels directly over the table for stylish decor that wasn’t too over the top. While Kristen and her friends made the tassel garland themselves, another option would be to use our Blue and Gold Tassel Garland. It fits the color palette perfectly, and the gold would add a nice bit of shine to the tablescape.
Kristen kept it nice and simple for her place settings. She wanted a minimal but chic feel for her party, and she definitely achieved that with her table arrangement. Kristen paired milk paper plates with the Black Frenchie Striped Napkins and Wooden Cutlery for a trendy look. Matching Milk Print Party Cups and Light Blue Stripe Straws would be a perfect addition for this table - especially filled with milk to dip the adorable custom sugar cookies that Kristen had designed just for Cook’s party. The cookies were in the shape of milk cartons or decorated to match Kristen’s signs. They made the absolute perfect sweet treat.
Kristen created an entire customized wooden display to surround her cake table. Wooden pegboards with small shelves were arranged to create a wonderful picture summary of Cook’s first year. Kristen printed and framed pictures from each month of Cook’s life and had them artfully displayed all around the cake with her handmade month signs.
Like the rest of her party, Kristen kept the decorations for her cake display minimal but absolutely adorable. Another clear milk bottle held a few more white roses, and the cakes themselves were presented on clean white cake stands. Kristen had two cakes prepared, one for the guests and a matching smash cake for Cook to enjoy all to himself.
The cakes were moderately decorated with beautiful white to blue ombre frosting and clean lines. Dollops of matching icing flowers held up mini chocolate chip cookies. We especially love the white chocolate flourish that made it seem as if a cookie was splashing into the milky white frosting on the top of the cake. And, of course, Kristen created a personalized wooden cake topper just for Cook on his special day.
In between the yummy cookies and cake and jumping around on the bouncy house that Kristen rented, all the partygoers of all ages had a fantastic time at Cook’s modern milk and cookies-themed birthday party. Although Cook might still be too young to remember this birthday, Kristen did an amazing job putting together such an adorable and stylish party that will live on in all of the amazing photos they took.
