Dancing Queen Party

Here are Ellie and Piper, we love when party themes are super versatile. This leaves so much space for our party-loving community to add their own extra creativity and fun! This Dancing Queen themed birthday party could make a great bridal or baby shower or, in this case, a fantastic New Year’s Eve party!

Our friend, Annie Papi, recently threw her daughter, Giada, the tenth birthday party of a lifetime. It was filled with pink balloons, glitter, and dancing – the perfect combination for a Dancing Queen themed birthday celebration. However, with disco balls and confetti already being the main ingredients for this party theme, we think it would make for a fantastic New Year’s Eve party as well!

To get ready for Giada’s party, Annie partnered with Robin + Co. Events to create the most amazing backdrop for photo ops. They began by using purple, silver, and pink fringe curtain backdrops to create a sparkling background, all of which you can also find in our shop

These fringe backdrops are easily customizable to add a wall of glitter to just about any party. To create the backdrop for Giada’s party, pieces of each color curtain were cut and layered over each other for a blended effect with the three colors. Once that was done, a huge balloon garland was wrapped up on each side of the backdrop using a variety of colored balloons in shades of metallic pink, purple, rose gold, gold, silver, and white. Our Pink and Rose Gold Balloon Garland set is a good starter to recreate this garland for your own party. You would just need to add a few extra colors to fully match Annie’s color theme. And, of course, disco balls were also added throughout the balloon garland for even more sparkles. Finally, the backdrop was completed with complementing tissue paper rosette garlands in pink and cream looped at the top of the background and a sign reading “Let’s Dance” in neon lights.

For the party itself, Annie set up this backdrop on a gray rug in her backyard, where Giada’s birthday was being held. To complete the full look for photo ops, Annie arranged more disco balls, an ivory loveseat with comfy throw pillows, a tall vase filled with feathery pampas grass, and another smaller vase filled with flowers on a white pillar around the seat. The final setup was definitely worthy of a professional photo shoot!

Now, imagine a backdrop similar to this for a New Year’s Eve party! Can you just see yourself sitting here holding glasses of sparkling cider (or pink champagne for the grown-ups) while waiting for the ball to drop? With disco balls sprinkled all around the scene, it’s already the perfect New Year’s Eve set up!

To say Annie created a gorgeous tablescape for this party would be the understatement of the year. Trailing down the center of a beautiful cherry wood table, Annie artfully arranged a pale pink sheer cloth as a table runner. Several glass bottles were filled with a variety of different flowers, all in matching party colors of pale pink, pastel purple, and dusty rose, along with fluffy white sprigs of baby’s breath to round out each vase. The center of the table held a larger arrangement of the same flowers in a round brushed gold vase. Of course, no ten-year-old’s party table would be complete without glitter, so Annie sprinkled our Party Disco Balls, Mini Party Disco Balls, and Pink Peonies Confetti all throughout the ruched table runner to add that much-desired extra shine.

Annie made sure the table was already set for when the girls were ready to eat during the party. For place settings, she used one of our Pink Stripe Dinner Plates as chargers beneath a variety of colored scalloped paper plates in shades of pink and light purple all edged in gold. Another option to use for plates would be our Assorted Shades of Rose Paper Plates. Annie paired her plates with adorable Floral Butterfly Napkins that perfectly matched the party's dusty pink and pastel tones and a Chill Out Mint Green Party Cup to complete each place setting.

The great thing about Annie's tablescape is even though her party theme is "Dancing Queen," the table itself is only color-coordinated to the theme and doesn't reference it directly. This makes it so much easier to recreate and customize for your own party! For a New Year's Eve party, simply swap out the party cups for champagne flutes, and you'll be good to go!

After eating, the girls had a delicious, sweet treat waiting for them. On the other side of the table, not only did Annie have a DJ and dance floor set up for the girls to enjoy, but she also had a cotton candy wall! Emily from Life’s About the Party created a stunning backdrop with little shelves holding cotton candy sticks for everyone! The backdrop was painted all in pink to match the party, with white shelves holding the cotton candy. Another purple fringe curtain was cut to size to flutter at the top of the backdrop with a neon light sign reading Giada’s name while another balloon garland curved around one side.

When it was finally time for cake, Annie brought out a beautiful cake made by Ashley at The Baking Barn. The cake was all white with watercolor-like swatches of pale pink, ivory, cream, purple, and orange decorating the sides. Balls of colored chocolate and more Mini Party Disco Balls trailed from the top and down one side to match the balloon garlands that decorated the party, while small sprigs of boho-style flowers and a dusty gold fan decorated the top. When it came time to sing happy birthday to Giada, she blew out a combination of our Tall Gold Party Candles and our Gold Dipped Party Candles. If you choose to use this theme for a New Year’s Eve party, swapping the birthday candles for Mini Gold Sparklers to serve the cake at midnight would be a great option.
