A Magical Vintage Disney Themed Birthday Party
Is there anything that encompasses childhood nostalgia more than Disney? Mickey and Minnie Mouse are simply the epitome of childhood memories for so many of us, and now that same love has spread to each new generation. For a child who loves Disney, could there be a better way to celebrate their birthday than with a beautiful Disney themed party perfect for any little prince or princess?
For her fourth birthday, Nora dreamed of visiting Disneyland. Her mom, Rozalyn, came up with a brilliant idea and brought Disney magic to her. Together with Meghan of Parker Grace Events, they put together a party filled with beautiful DIYs, a pretty pastel color palette, glitter, sparkles, and magic for Nora’s vintage Disney themed birthday.
Vintage Disney Themed Birthday Party Decorations
When they were in the very beginning stages of planning this party, Rozalyn and Meghan found a vintage Disney cross-stitch pattern with dainty pastels that they took inspiration from for their party color scheme. This color scheme came to life in their fringe backdrop created by Glam Fete. Layers of pale pink, blue, green, yellow, and white tissue with just a few hints of metallics for a bit of sparkle hung behind their party table. Try using our Pastel Fringe Curtain Backdrop for your own vintage Disney party. It comes in one sheet of fringe that you can cut to customize and even layer for a custom look.
Of course, one backdrop wasn’t enough for this epic Disney birthday! Rozalyn and Meghan partnered with The Creative Heart Studio to build a fantastic balloon display spelling out MAGIC. It was the perfect compliment to this magical party. If you want to try your hand at building your own lettered balloon display, be sure to head to our assortment of balloons available in every color you could imagine and pick up all your ballooning basics from our balloon garland essentials list.
On the opposite side of the room, Rozalyn showed off her crafting and calligraphy skills by creating a gorgeous floral mirror for the girls. Not only is Rozalyn a mom of two little ones, but she is also the queen of DIY and a craft blogger. She used a simple gold framed mirror and several silk flowers to create the shape of the Mickey ears on its top half. She tapped into her art skills on the mirror and painted the encouraging words “All I see is magic” onto the mirror with stars surrounding them. To recreate a similar look for your own party, you can use any round mirror you may already have and use our Ladurée Paris Floral Garland to create the ear shapes. The girls enjoyed twirling around in the mirror to admire the beautiful details on their princess tutus by Tutu de Monde.
Centered in front of their backdrop was the main party table where Nora and her friends would be enjoying their snacks during the party. The same delicate pastel theme that Rozalyn and Meghan used for the backdrop could be found on their table as well. They began by covering their child-sized table with a glittery pink sequin tablecloth from Party Crush Studio. We just love how elegant the table looks with its floor-length covering. For a similar look, you can use our Pink Ombre Table Cover for a dainty pink table and our Metallic White Glitter Table Runner to add some sparkle. The table itself had two elegant vases filled with fresh flowers put together by The Flower Theory in between trays of yummy snacks. Directly above the table hung the cross stitch pattern that inspired it all, recreated by Rozalyn onto a clear acrylic sheet.
Around the table, they placed tiny cross-backed chairs perfect for children’s little legs from Standard Event Rentals. Although the birthday girl’s chair was made extra special with a floral lining, every chair was decorated with an adorable Mickey ear wand handmade by Kiss You Kate. Here at Ellie and Piper, we carry a variety of wands that would fit right into this party theme, including our Light Pink Amelie Star Wand that would be perfect for casting Disney magic.
The place settings that Rozalyn and Meghan chose look like they could be straight out of Cinderella’s castle. To start, they layered our Mint Simply Eco Small Plate on top of our Cream Simply Eco Large plate. Even though these are paper plates, their eco-friendly, all-natural texture and curved shape with scallop edging makes them much more elegant than your average paper plate. Draped across each plate was a Bacon Bit Co. custom necklace designed just for Nora’s party, with each of her guests’ names spelled out in pastel letters with a Mickey shape in between. A cotton gauze napkin also from Party Crush Studio was placed beside each plate with utensils from our Pink Wooden Cutlery Set on top of it that Rozalyn customized by painting white Mickey shapes on each. If you would prefer paper napkins for your party, our Princess Scalloped Cocktail Napkins are a great option with soft pink, cream, and gold foil accents, or our Pastel Pink Large Napkins to pair with the pink cutlery. Finally, the place settings were completed with our Pastel Pink Tall Party Paper Cup decorated with a custom name pennant by Shirlee’s Shoppe and a pink straw topped with a delicious mini donut.
When it came time to sit down for snacks, the girls gathered around the table to enjoy treats made by Breanne of B.R. Sweets. Breanne made dozens of tiny donuts, mini cupcakes, chocolate lollipops, and even sugar cookies decorated with a cross-stitch Mickey to match the one that inspired the party. Rozalyn and Meghan displayed several of these treats on the table on our melamine cake stands in peony pink and white.
For something more nutritious than cupcakes and cookies, Rozalyn asked Nicole from Danville Cheese if she could create a Disney themed fruit and cheese board. Nicole jumped on the idea and created an absolutely stunning display. She used a Large White Melamine Cake Stand and filled it with colorful fruit, berries, a few nonpareils, and white chocolate pretzels. The main display on her board, however, was the brie palace. Four layers of brie cheese were stacked like a wedding cake on a smaller stand at the center of her display. Sliced meats added a bit of definition between the layers, and at the top was a tiny golden castle topper similar to the one in our Princess Cupcake Kit.
Rozalyn didn’t forget anything or anyone when it came to planning the details of this party. Even though the party was for her daughter, she knew there would be a few moms there as well, and she made sure they had something to enjoy too. Off to the side and away from the girls’ reach, Rozalyn and Meghan set up a champagne cart simply decorated with a few vases of flowers and a gold frame that Rozalyn painted a Disney quote on. She set up pink champagne coupes from Sugar and Cloth with a small twist of gold twine for decoration and filled them with Mickey shaped cotton candy for an extra dose of sweetness. Custom painted wine and champagne bottles are Rozalyn’s specialty. To match the vintage Disney cross stitch theme, she painted an intricate Mickey cross stitch pattern onto the champagne bottle she would be serving from.
Have we mentioned that Rozalyn is amazing at DIYs enough yet? She did her best to make as many beautiful details that truly tie this party together as she could – including this fabric piñata. After she made the body of the piñata out of cardboard, she decorated it with scraps of fabric, ribbons, and yarn that matched the party colors. The biggest surprise, however, was that the piñata wasn’t filled with candy as expected. Instead, it was completely filled with glitter and confetti. Rozalyn used several of our confetti packs, such as the Princess Confetti, Candy Confetti, Dream Mini Confetti, and Iridescent Mini Confetti, to fill the piñata. Each time the girls hit hard enough to open it a little, it was as if Tinkerbell flew by with a sprinkling of pixie dust.
A mom of toddlers might be familiar with the Minnie’s Bowtique shorts that play on the Disney Channel. Not one to miss out on any detail, Rozalyn wanted to create her own version of Minnie’s bow shop for Nora. She set up a cart and draped it with sheer pink fabric. A large vase of wildflowers stood in one corner while pink sunglasses and a variety of bows for the girls to choose from lined the top. What really made this little cart special, though, was the clear Mickey-shaped acrylic piece that stood in front of the vase that Rozalyn painted with “Nora’s Bow-tique.” The only thing that could have possibly made this bowtique even more perfect would have been a few of our Glitter Mouse Ear Headbands to pair with the bows and sunnies. The rose gold and glitter color fits in so well with the party theme!
When it was finally time to blow out the candles, Rozalyn brought out Nora's cake. Although the cake's design was minimalistic, it couldn't have been more perfect for the vintage Disney theme. Breanne from B.R. Sweets kept things simple with just super pale pink frosting covering the entire cake and blending almost seamlessly with the Pink Melamine Cake Stand. The only decoration on the cake was two simple Mickey lollipops on top. If you want something a little more detailed for your own Disney party, our Princess Cake Topper comes with pale pink and gold castle pieces that you can use to create your own castle scene at the top of your cake. When it came time to sing happy birthday to Nora, Rozalyn added one of our sparklettes in place of a candle.
We cannot get over how amazing this party is! Between Rozalyn’s crafting skills and Meghan’s event-planning expertise, no detail was left out of this wonderful Vintage Disney birthday. Rozalyn certainly succeeded in bringing the magic of Disney home just for Nora, and we’re certain this whole day will forever be one of the happy thoughts that Nora keeps with her forever.
